It is DAY 6 of "Raw Food Recipes with Excalibur" to celebrate our Excalibur 9-Tray Dehydrator Giveaway, and I am utterly thrilled that the phenomenal Brendan Brazier, formulator of VEGA, and creator of Zon Fitness, and Thrive Foods Direct agreed to share a recipe this month!

I know Brendan, and I ADORE him! I just cannot rave enough about this man. He is widely considered one of the world's foremost authorities in plant-based nutrition -- training elite sports stars and celebrities; consulting and developing products for top companies; and speaking at events all over the world. But more importantly, he is just a really great guy -- smart, talented, humble, SO hard-working, and incredibly generous. He constantly amazes me with his achievements! I often wonder, "Does he ever sleep?" If you don't know Brendan, then get ready, because you are about to be introduced to one of the most incredible people on the planet!

Brendan Brazier is a Canadian former pro ironman; formulator of the amazing VEGA products, (widely considered in health and athletic circles as the best protein supplements in the world), and bestselling author of the THRIVE series: THRIVETHE THRIVE DIET, THRIVE FITNESS, and THRIVE FOODS. Brendan recently launched Thrive Foods Direct, a food delivery service based on the nutritional philosophy in his books. These delicious, organic, plant-based, whole food, nutrient-dense meals are shipped directly anywhere in North America in vacuum-sealed, recycled and recyclable containers. Brendan is a passionate environmental warrior, and sustainability issues are of the utmost importance with everything he does.

This proud vegan is fiercely commited to spreading the word of an ethical, mindful, healthy, plant-based lifstyle. He is a sought-after public speaker, presenting at Google and many other top companies; as well as community and charity events such as the Chicago Green Festival and the United States Humane Society Gala. In 2008, Brendan was the keynote speaker for Canada's largest environmental tour, "Students For Sustainability", where he spoke at 21 universities with environmental leaders such as David Suzuki and Stephan Lewis. Perhaps the most impressive speaking engagement, was when he was invited to address the US Congress on Capitol Hill, speaking about the significant social and economic benefits that could be achieved with a healthier vegan diet.

Brendan has been featured in countless international publications such as The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Veg News Magazine, and many others; and is a guest lecturer at the prestigious Cornell University, presenting a eCornell module entitled, "The Plant-Based Diet and Elite Athleticism."

He also offer sports performance plant-based nutrition consulting, travelling all over the country with some of the world's most admired sport's stars from the NFL, MLB, NHL, UFC, PGA, Olympic, and Tour De France athletes. He will be writing a book featuring these high profile athletes making the transition to a plant-based diet. This book will be published by Rodale, and cross promoted with their magazines: Men's Health, Women's Health, Runner's World, Bicycling, and Prevention.

One of Brendan's most famous Hollywood clients, Hugh Jackman, who worked with Brendan to prepare for his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, after falling in love with the VEGA products, credits the diet for helping him add 20 pounds of lean muscle for his "Wolverine" role. Jackman was so impressed with how he felt following Brendan's vegan eating regime, that he wrote the foreword to THRIVE. Now, I can't compete with Hugh's recommendation, or these top sports stars. So, all I will say is that I refer to Brendan's books DAILY for plant-based health and nutrition tips, and the recipes in THRIVE FOODS are INCREDIBLE.

This raw vegan “toasted” apple cinnamon cereal from THRIVE is a glowing example of Brendan's delicious recipes, that are incredibly easy to prepare, and absolutely LOADED with live enzymes and nutrients. Brendan says, "This is an excellent cereal in terms of nutritional balance. Unlike many commercial cereals, this one has lots of fiber, complete protein, essential fatty acids, and calcium." I love to carry this as an afternoon snack! It is SOOO good! It is full of flavour, and is not too sweet.

Brendan has a TON of fantastic high-protein, nutrient-dense, raw and vegan recipes; and he can whip up a mean green protein-rich smoothie with his incredible VEGA products. He recently opened a chain of THRIVE JUICE BARS in Canada to share his fantastic vegan recipes; and will publish a full-colour recipe book with Penguin in 2013.

If that wasn't enough, he has also partnered with the world's largest distributor of sporting goods, Big Game International to create a line of fitness equipment called ZoN Fitness, and the acclaimed ZoN Thrive Fitness Program. To learn more about Brendan's favourite nutritional, fitness, and eco-friendly products, you can follow him on Open Sky.

All of this really begs the question, "WHAT can we expect next from this incredible human being?" Only time will tell.

Thankyou Brendan, for so graciously participating in this event, and indulging me in everything I ask you to do.
I am so grateful. You just take my breath away...

Tips!

Get the most juice out of your citrus fruits

Always juice lemons, limes and oranges at room temperature. This will maximize the juice available. Another trick is to use a citrus press. I could not live without mine! I have one for lemons, one for limes and one for oranges. But if you squeeze as much lemon and lime juice as I do, it can be a pain in….your hand. To alleviate some of the pressure cut the fruit into quarters instead of halves. Not only is it easier than juicing halves – it actually yields more juice.

WOW this looks delicious!!  Thank you for sharing and introducing so many new people for me to follow from Australia.

I’ve been so behind on reading blogs and am just getting back in the swing. This recipe is a lovely welcome back! I don’t have a dehydrator, but love the flavor combo for a low heat granola recipe. I hadn’t thought to use stevia in granola, and with molasses, yum!

reply

Alisa, this granola is AMAZING. I have been carrying it around with me as snacks. yes, the stevia is fantastic mixed with the molasses in this recipe. Enjoy :)

Any suggestions for substitutions for the hemp products? They’re just SO expensive!

Gaia, just use more flaxseeds and it still tastes amazing. Let me know how you go!

By the way I like to add a little extra diced apple, hemp seeds, and maca powder to the ingredients. And I eat my cereal with blueberries and banana with non-dairy milk of course ;]

YUM! Love your tweaks to this recipe. Thanks for sharing your experience. I LOVE it too :)
