Lola Berry’s Raw Vegan Prune Powerballs

10

We continue DAY 14 of "Gluten Free Vegan Recipes with Breville" and it is only fitting that we celebrate an Australian company with one of the darlings of the Aussie food world, the GORGEOUS Lola Berry -- Celebrity Nutritionist, Media Personality, Brand Spokesperson, Host of the popular Web Series, Fruits and Roots, and author of THE 20/20 DIET. I fell in love with Lola several years ago, and simply HAD to include her in this event. She is AMAZING!

With an infectious, down-to-earth nature, Lola Berry has established herself as one of Australia’s most high-profile and entertaining nutritionists. Lola is well- known and loved in the Aussie media, and appears regularly on popular television shows such as The Circle, The 7pm Project and A Current Affair; and is a spokesperson in print and on radio. It is not hard to see why. She makes healthy living FUN, and will stop at nothing to get the world excited about whole foods. For example, she’s convinced a TV host to swallow raw wasabi on live, national television; she’s dived into dumpsters on the streets of New York and eaten from one; she’s run madly in search of water after daring to eat one of the world’s hottest chillies; and has handed out actual black-eyed peas to celebrities at an official ‘Black Eyed Peas’ red carpet event!

Lola is colourful and spunky, to say the least. But more importantly. she is passionate about speading the whole foods message, and extremely knowlegable. With a Bachelor of Health Science and a thriving Melbourne consultancy practice, Lola knows what she’s talking about, and shares her expertise in an accessible and friendly way, making anybody feel like they can change their life and get healthy! If you need to lose weight, this lovely lady can help!

Lola has devised a simple, effective, easy-to-follow diet plan based on her years of struggle with weight issues and dieting, and her wealth of experience as a nutritionist. After making some simple adjustments to her diet, Lola lost 20 kilos in 20 weeks, and you can too! Guaranteed to help you lose weight and boost energy levels, THE 20/20 DIET is based firmly on eating unprocessed foods and steering clear of the grains, dairy and refined sugar that are also common allergens.

This fabulous, easy-to-read book, (I read the whole thing on a plane ride from L.A to NYC) offers a simple, practical, flexible weight-loss and healthy living regime delivered in an informal, friend-next-door kind of style that makes the book fun and interesting to read. Lola shares scientific information about the reasons behind weight loss, but shares it in a laid-back, digestible way that is really accessible. She strikes a lovely balance between science, nutritional knowledge, intuition, personal experience, and pure entertainment. At times the book reads like a witty, charming, chick-lit story.

However, do not be fooled. This book has tremendous value, and is absolutely LOADED with valuable information, tips, tricks, and tried-and-tested ways to lose weight quickly and permanently. Features include: Metabolism-Boosters such as coconut oil, green tea and chilli, that will actually help you lose weight at your desk; The Benefits of Sleep and what those zzzzs are doing for your body and mind; Stress-busters to halt that tummy fat; Exercise, Stretching, and Meditation Suggestions; Whole Foods Ingredient and Kitchenware Glossary; Eating Plans; and Delicious Simple and Tasty Recipes that will help you stick with the program and leave you feeling satisfied and nourished.

These Raw Prune Powerballs that she is sharing today are featured in the book. Lola says about her recipe, “This makes a quick dessert or brilliant mid-afternoon snack. Some people prefer them with dates, but prunes have a lower GI, so are better for weight loss. Plus, by adding nuts we’re decreasing the insulin spike from the sugar hit. They’re fun to make, so if you have a family, get your kids involved.” I say, “These are super easy to make and scrummalicious!”

Lola's website
is also a fantastic resource for healthy recipes. Some of my favourites include: Quinoa and Coconut Porridge, Avocado and Pistachio DipSauteed Kale and Silverbeet, and her Beet Blood Cleanse. Be sure to check out Lola's fabulous You Tube videos too. She is so natural and fun, and her videos are very honest and relatable.

Trust me, check out her website, and fall in love with the intoxicating Lola Berry.
Lola, thanks for taking part in this event and generously sharing your fab recipe. Can’t wait to hang in Melbourne when I come home for Christmas. You ROCK!

Lola Berry’s Raw Vegan Prune Powerballs

  • 1 cup pitted soft prunes
  • 1 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1⁄4 cup dried goji berries
  • 1⁄4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1⁄4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1⁄2 cup organic dessicated coconut
  1. Combine chopped prunes, pecans gojis, cacao, cayenne pepper and cinnamon in your Sous Chef® Food Processor and pulse until combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into little balls and roll on a plate of desiccated coconut to coat them.
  3. Store them in the fridge.
  4. These last for weeks, but I’m sure they’ll get gobbled up sooner than that. Plus they make great presents!
  5. TIP: If you don’t like pecans, replace them with your favourite nut – just make sure it’s raw.
  6. Makes about 30 balls.

Piggy Cooking Tips

How to prevent sticking when chopping dried fruits

Chopping dried fruits such as dates, apricots and raisins can be a sticky mess. The fruit sticks to the knife, the board and your fingers. To get yourself out of a sticky situation just rub a tiny drop of cold pressed oil onto the blade of your knife. The fruit will slide right off after cutting.
