We continue our celebration of Vega today with this "Minty Sacha Inchi" Green Shake. After posting the sacha inchi seed milk recipe yesterday, I had to share one of my favourite smoothie recipes to show you how fabulous it tastes! This recipe is quite exotic, so put your bold blending panties on, and just indulge me, because the results are spectacular!  Those of you who frequent my facebook page would be abundantly aware of my obsession with liquid chlorophyll. Since Dr Robert O Young introduced Scott and I to it a couple of years ago, it has literally transformed our lives and our health. Those of you who read my green milk post would remember the miraculous results Dr Young is witnessing by including liquid chlorophyll into an... Keep Reading

We are into the third week of our Vega Giveaway. Congratulations to Heather Byrne and Tracey Gorham who are the first two winners. I will announce another lucky recipient on facebook and twitter at the end of this week. Good Luck :) I am so excited to share my favourite Vega Product and one of the greatest discoveries of the last two years -- Sacha Inchi Seeds, or, as Vega has called them, "Saviseeds". I first discovered sacha inchi seeds while reading Brendan Brazier's THRIVE FOODS book. I have raved about this book in so many posts, I would imagine you are all familiar with the book. If you are not, let me share with you one of the best nutrient-dense superfood vegan recipe books on the market. I have made almost every single... Keep Reading

Happy Sunday. I had a fabulous brunch today with my friends Elise Bauer from Simply Recipes, and Amber Stott of Awake At The Whisk, and founder of California Food Literacy. We enjoyed a zesty citrus and pear fruit salad with local fruit, delicious buckwheat pancakes, freshly squeezed local orange juice, and my sweet kale shake. YUMMO! Good fresh food, and even better company. I LOVE what these ladies are doing to help children learn about healthy eating. Please check out their initiative and support them by donating, and following them on facebook and twitter.  Another friend of mine who is committed to spreading the healthy living message is Brendan Brazier, Canadian Pro Ironman, formulator of VEGA, and creator of Zon Fitness, Thrive... Are you including sunflower seeds in your diet? Try making raw homemade sunflower seed milk as a delicious way to enjoy these nutritionally dense seeds. As with the homemade almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia milk, hazelnut milk, Brazil nut milk, coconut milk, rice milk, and pumpkin seed milk recipes I have posted, this raw homemade sunflower seed milk recipe is as easy as SOAK, BLEND, and DEVOUR, and makes a fabulous base for smoothies, ice creams, and desserts, and is a really interesting addition to savoury recipes like curries and stews. If you live in the U.S, sunflower seeds are local treasures. Sunflower seeds are the fruit of the sunflower that is native to North America and enjoyed by Native Americans for years. They are... After sharing my decadent chocolate hazelnut nutella smoothie yesterday, I wanted to share a more forgiving dessert for those of you on low sugar, low sodium, anti-candida, anti-cancer, alkaline diets, or for those of you health conscious foodies who want something delicious without all of the sugar! Well, I don't mind tooting my own horn and proclaiming that I have hit the JACKPOT with this "pumpkin pie" smoothie that is vegan, alkaline, and sugar free!  I created this delectable recipe as a Valentine's Day surprise for Scott, who has been maintaining a strict vegan, alkaline diet. He has had nothing sweeter than a carrot stick in over six months. I know it may seem a little odd to post a pumpkin recipe at this time of the year. But... Keep Reading

Are you including pumpkin seeds in your diet? If you don't enjoy chomping down on a handful of pepitas, try making raw pumpkin seed milk. It is LOADED with nutrients, and is absolutely delicious. As with the homemade almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia milk, hazelnut milk, Brazil nut milk, coconut milk, and rice milk recipes I have posted, this raw pumpkin seed milk recipe is as easy as SOAK, BLEND, and DEVOUR, and makes a fabulous base for smoothies, ice creams, and desserts. Pumpkin seed milk is a fun way to include these nutrient-rich seeds into your diet. Best of all, this food is native and local to the Americas! As squash was one of the first domesticated plants in the Americas, there is a long history of enjoying pepitas dating... Keep Reading

It is Valentine's Day this week, and I have been saving my most decadent "make your sweetheart weak at the knees" chocolate hazelnut shake for this occasion. Valentine's Day is a fabulous excuse to spoil yourself and your special somebody, and this "liquid nutella" delivers in spectacular fashion.  I am going to offer a disclaimer right off the bat and say that this is NOT a low-calorie "healthy" smoothie. This shake is luxurious, decadent, and ALL about the FUN! "Hello, My Name is Tess, and I am a Chocoholic." Today, I am giving myself permission to enable my addiction with reckless abandon. Hazelnuts and chocolate are a culinary match made in heaven, and this shake is a blendaholic's orgy! LOL! It will seriously rock your world.  I... Keep Reading

Homemade raw hazelnut milk is a culinary gift from the gods! I don’t tend to "milk" hazelnuts as much as other raw nuts and seeds, as my mind always wants to pair them with chocolate for decadent treats like pralines, chocolates tortes, home made ice creams, hazelnut butter, chocolate spread (Nutella) and chocolate pancakes! However, plain slightly sweetened hazelnut milk makes a delicious treat on it's own. It is a wonderful chilled drink, or can be mixed with some raw cacao for a chocolate hazelnut milk that is DIVINE! As with the homemade almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia milk, Brazil nut milk, coconut milk, and rice milk recipes I have posted, this raw hazelnut milk is as easy as SOAK, BLEND, and DEVOUR, and makes a fabulous base... Those of you who have been following me for a while would be familiar with my penchant for "pie in a glass" smoothies. I LOVE them. Liquid pie! What's there not to love? If you've tried the vegan apple pie smoothie, pecan pie smoothie, sweet potato pie smoothie, banana coconut cream pie smoothie, or lemon cheesecake smoothie, you understand the obsession.  Now, whilst these rich decadent smoothies are not the most low-calorie, healthiest smoothies on my site, sometimes it is "all about the FUN." That's what this blueberry pie smoothie is all about. Now, in most of my pie smoothies I use raw cashews to replicate the buttery flavour of pie pastry. But raw macadamias or homemade macadamia milk achieves a similar result.  I thought raw... Keep Reading

As promised, in honour of our Vega Giveaway, here is my one of my favourite Vega Protein Green Smoothies using Brazil Nut Milk. This Banana Vanilla Chai Green Smoothie is so delicious it tastes like a decadent dessert in a glass. WOW! I think the Vanilla Chai Vega One all-in-one nutritional shake might be my all-time favourite Vega flavour. YUMMO!  It is so delicious, you don't need to add much in order to create smoothie magic! I really love the Vega protein powders. After trying almost every protein powder on the market, I still think they're the best vegan products in the world. So many other formulas have a gritty texture and weird after-taste. The Vega blends are perfectly balanced. I was never a fan of protein powders, but... Keep Reading
