Piggies, the weather has finally turned in Southern California! In my world, that means it is “bug-in-a-rug” soup season! As much as I mourn the loss of “Hot Summer Nights”, daylight savings, and sunshine, I do look forward to cuddling up in front of the fire with a delicious bowl of steaming vegan soup. Those of you who know me will say that it doesn’t need to be Winter for me to extoll the virtues of a healthy bowl of soup, and you would be right. Whether, it is “Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall” a delicious bowl of soup (hot or cold) never ceases to satisfy me. It is the ultimate comfort food that seems to nourish the body and the soul. But aside from the romantic “warm and fuzzies”, soup is practical! It is quick, easy, hearty,... Keep Reading
Piggies! I am continuing with my cranberry orgy and posting my favourite raw vegan Body Ecology cranberry smoothie in honour of the release of Donna Gate’s new book, “The Baby Boomer Diet” and the companion DVD series, “Growing Younger: Anti-Aging Secrets For every Generation”. Those of you who have been following me for a while would be familiar with how The Body Ecology Diet changed my life. I had suffered lethargy and candida my whole life, and after having tried every whole foods diet known to man, I started on Body Ecology stage one and never looked back. Donna had successfully cherry picked many of the same elements from what she calls “the pillars of holistic health” as I had. It wasn’t until I put them together in the way that she... Keep Reading
Today, I continue sharing some of the anti-cancer smoothies I created for the Thrive Alive Foundation in Canada. We started last week with the Brazil Nut Berry Smoothie, and we continue today with this salty alkaline kale green smoothie. Now, I will say right off the bat that this salty savoury smoothie will not be for everyone. If you are new to green smoothies, I would suggest starting with a sweet fruity green smoothie to ease into the idea and taste of blended greens. But for those of you who are more adventurous, this smoothie is a delicious healthy alkaline smoothie to include in your weekly eating regime. I think it tastes like liquid guacamole! YUMMO! I love cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower for boosting... Keep Reading
Piggies, after indulging in what felt like a toxic acidic orgy and love fest with Mr Darcy, I have decided to lovingly offer a detox with one of my favourite alkaline green smoothies. What better day to share this delicious green smoothie recipe than today, which is International Green Smoothie Day. I know, I know, there is a holiday for every single food on the planet these days. But I am going to champion the cause of this green smoothie holiday with gusto, as I believe everyone should be including green smoothies in their daily eating regime. That, and it is another excuse to champion my beloved Vitamix and the power of s'blended raw green foods. To learn more about the power of green smoothies head to my Make Green Smoothies page,... Piggies, our love affair and obsession with Mr Darcy comes to and end today (well, for a while anyway) as I share the last fabulous recipe from our "Pride and Prejudice" movie marathon. I shared the raw vegan lasagne, raw mango coconut balls and raw vegan mint chocolate chip cookies. The last recipe from the evening was these raw vegan sun dried tomato pesto kale chips. I offered the disclaimer last week that these raw kale chips were hard to quit eating. But I feel I must stress the point again. Piggies, you and your will power have been warned. These sun dried tomato kale chip recipe is phenomenal! Even if I do say so myself. At least, that is the feedback I have received far and wide from every single person I have offered them to.... Delicious fresh food, my favourite peeps and Jane Austen. Does life get any better? This was certainly our motto last night, as five of my closest girl friends and I enjoyed a glorious Pride and Prejudice marathon; where we prepared some delectable vegetarian food and watched the entire sensational six hours of the famous BBC production of Pride and Prejudice, starring the one and only Mr Darcy -- Colin Firth. Our dear friend Tara is moving back to Minnesota next month, and so Olivia, Mika, Liz, Gina and I decided to send her off in style, and merge our two great loves -- beautiful fresh food and Jane Austen. Olivia arrived at noon, and we hit the markets in search of our loot; where, unbeknownst to us, we bumped into one of my favourite... Keep Reading
Looking for almond pulp recipes? This organic almond pulp skin srub is one of the easiest ways to use your leftover almond pulp. I don't know about you, but I don't put anything on my skin that I wouldn't put in my mouth. I am a huge supporter of natural organic food grade skin care, but an even bigger fan of making my own homemade skin care with organic food and food grade products in my kitchen. This way, I know the exact source of the ingredients, how fresh they are, and in what ratios and quantities they have been mixed together. I can also muscle-test the ingredients and test them against my skin as I make up my potions to know if they are a good fit for my skin from week to week, and season to season. I also like to be in... Keep Reading
