I am having an absolute blast with my gorgeous family! They arrived from Australia a week ago and we have been flying the piggy flag with gusto, exploring the snout-worthy culinary delights of Los Angeles. In my humble opinion, no whole foodie tour of L.A would be complete without a visit to Real Food Daily. I was so proud as my ever-supportive family, who are not vegetarians, but rather "whole foods/slow foods geeks," dove into their vegan troughs with over-zealous piggy enthusiasm and joy. Ann Gentry's delectable vegan recipes continue to inspire and delight me, and I was thrilled that my foodie family agreed. The food is so simple and clean. My sister Kara was hilarious: she closed her eyes as she cleaned every last morsel off her... Keep Reading

I absolutely love cooking with my friend Kris. Not only is she one of my dearest friends and amongst the most generous people I know; she is a phenomenal vegetarian cook. Kris and I met when we were in a play together for Ranters Theatre over 13 years ago, and we have been breaking gluten free bread with love ever since. Beth and Zoe were also in the play, and we have all been kindred spirits ever since, having regular lunches and dinners throughout the year as a group. One of the most wonderful things about our friendships is that we are all obsessed whole foodies; and all three of these ladies are absolutely incredible vegetarian cooks. So, needless to say, there is always something delicious on the table. I will celebrate Zoe later this... Keep Reading

I had never eaten a lot of cornbread until I met my husband, and joined his family in the Midwest. Rob’s mum was brought up in a small town in Missouri, eating a Southern-inspired diet of fried chicken, potatoes, green beans, and cornbread. So I looked to her for the perfect recipe. I quickly became addicted to cornbread in every incantation. She was a wonderful Southern cook, and was well known for her delicious recipes. I had never cooked Southern food, and having been Macrobiotic, and, as she so eloquently put it, “one of those healthy freaks” for so many years, eating this cornbread gave my body quite a jolt! I didn’t realize there was so much wheat flour, sugar and butter in it. Why was it called “corn bread”? It was not long before... Keep Reading

OK – so who doesn’t like gluten free nut banana bread? Fruity, sweet “healthy bread”! Well, at least that is what we tell ourselves when after two slices and a cup of tea, we are still reaching for another slice of piggy heaven. As we all know, too much of any gluten free bread (stuffed with fruit or not) is going to make you a bit hippy; and unfortunately, the same is true for this gluten free dairy free banana bread. There are literally hundreds of thousands of fantastic gluten free banana nut bread recipes, and everyone has their favourite recipe they got from their grandmother, mother, aunt or friend. But as we self respecting banana bread connoisseurs know all too well, not all banana breads were created equal. That said, I have... Keep Reading

I love a good “loaf-style” gluten free cake that strikes a satisfying balance between savoury and sweet, and still feels decadent enough to hit the spot when you want a treat with a beautiful cup of tea. I don’t know what it is about nut and seed loaves, but I never feel quite so naughty enjoying more than one slice at a time. In fact, recently, two friends and I devoured this whole gluten-free nut loaf in one sitting! Sad, but true. What can I say? We got a bit nutty and it brought out the little pigs in all of us. Nut loaves are like gluten free banana bread for me -- they are dead easy, absolutely delicious, and not too naughty! There are countless different gluten-free nut loaf recipes out there. But this simple little recipe remains a... Keep Reading
