Boo! It is my last day with the glorious food bloggers from Uncooking 101. Piggies, if you haven't acquainted yourself with Eva and Venita you are just not maximising your RAWkstar potential. These women ROCK! Their community of passionate raw foodies is pretty inspiring too. Check out their Facbook Page and website and join the interesting conversation on this raw recipe blog. You will learn a lot about the power of live raw foods. As the writer of a vegetarian recipe blog, I have had a wonderful week swapping delicious raw vegan recipes with these ladies. Over at Healthy Blender Recipes we have dipped our snouts in the delectable "better-than-ranch" dressing and the "better-than-tequila" margarita; and the RAWkstars over at Uncooking101... Here is the next vegan recipe using the Square One Organics vegetable purees. Honestly, creating these recipes for Square One has been a food blogger's dream. To learn more about their organic products check out their website and read the mango coconut panna cotta pudding post. I am a huge fan of hiding green vegetables in as many dishes as possible to try and get kids to eat in a more nutritious way. One of the easiest ways to do this is with green smoothies. Raw smoothies are a fantastic addition to any diet, and this vegan chocolate shake is a s'blended way to sneak in some extra veggies to any "greenophobe" piggies (young and old) without them even knowing. Some children are really good at eating their greens, but more often than not... Keep Reading
Piggies! I fear I am writing yet another letter of apology for my lack of new recipes this month! (Note to self: as a food blogger you need to post recipes!) No recipes for Easter from me this year! But if you are inclined to make some Anzac biscuits for Anzac Day, I have a fantastic gluten free recipe. Suffice to say, it has been a very busy, exciting couple of weeks in the healthy blender world. First thing on the agenda: I travelled to San Francisco to shoot some videos for Chow in their test kitchen at the CBS Interactive headquarters. Some of you might remember that I was Chow's "Member Of The Month" back in February. If you haven't seen it, check it out. The Chow team tested some of my vegetarian recipes in their test kitchen and... Keep Reading
I know this is a tad late; but "Happy New Year" to all of you piggies in the healthy blender world. I hope you all had a s'blended holiday season, and that 2011 brings health, happiness, and an abundance of opportunities to fulfill your soul's purpose. At least, that is what I am hoping for myself! After one of the most challenging years of my life, I finally understand the true meaning of "Happy" "NEW" "Year"! Apologies for my lack of posts. I have been a food blogger without a fully functioning kitchen for the last 5 months, and have not had time to trial new vegetarian recipes. But, that is all about to change as I move into my fabulous new apartment in L.A, that has a huge kitchen, just begging to be exploited! So, as I sit,... Keep Reading
Rob and I were in Ojai, California this week and we were baking! No – not the “put a pie in the oven” kind of baking; rather, the “it’s too hot for humans” kind of baking – where you are sweating in embarrassing places you didn’t know could weep for themselves. OK, so perhaps I am overstating the heat just a tad, and I shouldn’t be complaining after escaping the “slap you in the face” oppressive heat of Arizona. But when you have been standing under the hot sun in a field knee deep in bushes for two hours waiting for the light to change, it brings out the little princess “where is my assistant with the umbrella?” side of any girl! Rob had some great photo ideas for the recipe blog and so we seized the moment, grabbed an empty blender... Keep Reading
I don’t know about you, but I just can’t eat enough eggs. Boiled, poached, scrambled -- I will take them any way I can get them. They would be in my top 5 favourite foods, and I never mind having egg on my face. If the trough was filled with eggs every day my snout would just chow down with joy and never look up. I always make sure I eat organic, free range eggs that have a healthier Omega 3 – 6 ratio; and to be honest, I eat as many as I want, and my snout keeps singing out for more. I love them on their own, sprinkled with a bit of Celtic sea salt; and about once a week I blend up a vegetarian omelette and throw in whatever left over veggies are screaming to be used. Vegetarian omelettes are just so quick and easy, and OH SO good for... Keep Reading
I promised it, and here it is. My vegan gluten free “apple pie in a glass”. I don’t really know how to do this apple smoothie justice, except to say that it is absolutely scrumdidiliumptious! For those of you with a greater articulacy, and more clarity of expression, you might be able to accurately find real words out of the dictionary that adequately prepare the palate for this taste sensation. But today, I must resort to fictional words in fantasy movies, where anything is possible. Actually, perhaps I should take some words from the famous Mary Poppins, and tell you, that, in my opinion, this vegan smoothie is “practically perfect in every way”. And I don’t think I will be needing to eat humble pie. This apple pie smoothie is absolutely... Keep Reading
I love a great vegetarian omelette. Well, heck, I even enjoy a good omelette. But I must admit, that I cannot lower my standards any further. The worst kind of omelette? The cheese drowned, limp filled, soggy, sad omelette that I have to open up with a spoon. Those kind of omelettes require me to “coat check my liver and colon” before I can even stomach looking at them. I know a lot of you are thinking, “well how do you get any flavour?”. Well, one bite of this flavour-filled Persian omelette, and you will never ask me that question again. The secret to this baked omelette? Blending the fresh herbs. For those of you already celebrating the vegan, or at least, dairy free path of no return, this simple fact comes as no surprise. However, I... Keep Reading
OK – so who doesn’t like gluten free nut banana bread? Fruity, sweet “healthy bread”! Well, at least that is what we tell ourselves when after two slices and a cup of tea, we are still reaching for another slice of piggy heaven. As we all know, too much of any gluten free bread (stuffed with fruit or not) is going to make you a bit hippy; and unfortunately, the same is true for this gluten free dairy free banana bread. There are literally hundreds of thousands of fantastic gluten free banana nut bread recipes, and everyone has their favourite recipe they got from their grandmother, mother, aunt or friend. But as we self respecting banana bread connoisseurs know all too well, not all banana breads were created equal. That said, I have... Keep Reading
