Piggies! it's official. I have a serious girl crush on the delightful Eva Rawposa and Venita Hale from Uncooking 101. Those HBR piggies who tried Eva's "better-than-tequila" margarita have felt the love! Those of you who haven't had a chance to see what all the fuss is about, check out her amazing RAWkstar recipes on her raw recipe blog and indulge. There is something for everyone, from really simple "blend and pour" recipes (which we piggies LOVE) to more detailed salads and other delicious healthy meal ideas. But her raw recipes all have one thing in common: they are made with healthy live whole foods and enzymes, and are bursting with flavour and nutrition. I have tried a TON of the raw recipes off this site and it really IS... Keep Reading
OK - piggy announcements! First and foremost - It is official. FeedBURNER has successfully burnt through the last of my "piggy-zen" patience, which was already in short supply. You will be thrilled to learn that, at Max's suggestion, we have changed the subscription and feed settings, so that all recipe posts feed directly from the site - giving me greater control; and hopefully curing the email diarrhoea that has been spamming your inboxes in a relentless and annoying fashion akin to the desperate invasive techniques used by paparazzi stalkers. A big piggy "Thankyou" to all of you who have continued to roll around in this new trough with a wink and a snort, despite the frustrating technical glitches that have unfortunately plagued our... Hello, my name is Tess, and I am a chocoholic. Well, I am a raw organic cacaoholic. Those of you who know me are well acquainted with my addiction. Those of you who are new to this vegetarian recipe blog -- welcome to my obsession. Don’t be alarmed. I assure you, it is perfectly safe, and downright delicious. I will warn you though -- it is highly contagious. But be comforted in the knowledge that you can enable this addiction and join our program without too much collateral damage. In a previous post introducing my Vegan Chocolate Chilli Pepper Mousse we started at step one in our twelve step program -- “switching to dark unsweetened chocolate”. Then we lept ahead to step ten, which was “to embrace a vegan, dairy free, sugar free... Keep Reading
People take the first bite with their eyes with most things in life. So it is really important when I am entertaining that I have a variety of vibrant colours and textures on offer. That way my eyes are excited, my mouth starts to water, and my little snout starts to wiggle with excited anticipation. Couple that with a vibrant taste sensation that explodes in my mouth and I have a winning combination that keeps me snouting down without drawing for breath like a starved horse connected to a feed bag. This was the case the other night when we had our “Vegetarian Mexican Taco Buffet Feast”. We had the deep rich roasted peppers and onions; and the vibrant sweet pico de gallo. Gretchen made her famous mouth watering guacamole that had us all... Keep Reading
Whenever I am looking for a showstopping vegan dip I always turn to the recipe collection of Kurma Dasa. Kurma is an Australian vegetarian chef I met many years ago while taking some vegetarian cooking classes at The Essential Ingredient (formally The Vital Ingredient) in Melbourne Australia. I immediately became intoxicated with the incredible flavour of his food, and the simplicity of his cooking style. Who can forget the Creamy Raw Vegan Cashew Dip. That is another one of those incredible creamy vegan dip recipes I got from him. Most of Kurma’s vegetarian cooking is inspired by the flavours of India. However, every once and a while he diverts to explore the culinary delights of other exotic regions. This exquisite muhammara recipe – (or... Keep Reading
To all my American readers, please accept my apologies. I have received numerous emails since my last post, where I used a “wonder mix” relatively unknown in the United States to help bind the home made nut bars. Whilst I have grown up using LSA as a very familiar ingredient (along with most other healthy Australians) it did not occur to me that American readers might be a bit lost. After getting the fifth email from America asking me “what is this LSA and where do I get it” I decided that I should devote a post to this marvellous vegan raw nut mix, seeing as I will be using it and referring to it regularly. I do not want your lack of experience with LSA to deter you from making those s’blended nut bars! To those of you in Australia who... Keep Reading

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous in Melbourne this week. I have been seizing the opportunity to sit out in the sunshine with a plate of raw foods and a glass of lemon water. I thought I would take advantage before the weather turns and I am rugging up with a bowl of soup! You know my partiality for raw shredded salads. Needless to say, my food processor has been getting a work out this week; and I have opened more cabbages and bunches of kale than usual! I just can’t go past a bowl of shredded vegetables splashed with a generous drizzle of olive oil, multiple squeezes of lemon juice, and pinch or two of Celtic sea salt. But when the cream dreamer in me longs for something a bit richer, I can’t go past this quick and easy vegan... Keep Reading
I thought I would continue my condiment craze and offer up this glorious green mayonnaise as an interesting colourful alternative to more traditional white mayonnaise options. I don’t know about you, but I like to add a bit of colour to the table; and in my humble opinion, nothing looks better than green mayonnaise! If you are looking for a quick easy colourful dairy free mayonnaise this one is a winner. This glorious green mayonnaise is a wonderful spread on vegetable kebabs, fantastic with tacos, and great with steamed vegetables, salads and sandwiches. Not only does it taste fantastic, but it is a great way to blend in some much needed greens and give this mayonnaise a nutritional kick. For me, spinach is always a good idea! The only... I don’t know about you, but I can never go past a fresh raw Asian salad on a hot Summer’s day. It always reminds me of many a steaming hot day seeking refuge at a shady table outside at a hawker stall in Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand during my teenage years. I know those of you freezing your rear ends off in the Northern hemisphere can’t even contemplate the hot sun on your body right now. But for those of us basking down under, we will celebrate all things raw and Summery today. As I continue my crusade against all pre-made dressings, it occurred to me that no homemade salad dressing repertoire would be complete without a quick, easy homemade Asian dressing. So here it is. This is a simple Asian salad dressing recipe that you can... Keep Reading
