Cookies & Biscuits

Piggies, thankyou for all of your lovely emails, Facebook and Twitter messages, and comments about our "Pride and Prejudice" marathon movie night. It is nice to know there are so many fellow Jane Austen fans out there! Seeing as I couldn't zap you all to our event (believe me, I would have if I could have) I will share the remaining two recipes on our delectable raw vegan menu. Today I am sharing the raw vegan mint chocolate chip cookies, and next week I will post the raw vegan sun dried tomato kale chips! I will attach a piggy disclaimer about both of these recipes before continuing: these little morsels of heaven are extremely morish! They are hard to quit eating, and will kick even the most disciplined foodie into an over indulgent... Keep Reading

Piggies! Thankyou for all of your birthday wishes last week. As a humble vegetarian food blogger, I really appreciate all of your messages on Facebook, Twitter and email. Yes! I had a s'blended birthday celebration week in NYC with my friends -- laughing and scoffing my way around my favourite haunts. I just feel at home in NYC. Is there any other city that boasts such vibrancy and diversity? It is like chocolate for me -- I  just can't get enough. The proud piggy in me freely admits, that, yes, as suspected, I did spend my entire birthday indulging my snout in one trough or another! It was absolutely sensational. I enjoyed one continuous travelling degustation meal in every neighbourhood of NYC. My snout was tingling, my taste buds were... Keep Reading

I have to say, that when it comes to shortbread, my mum's recipe takes the blue ribbon prize every day of the week and twice on Sundays. I have been happily scoffing these delicious little morsels of Heaven every Christmas since I can remember. It is one of my "I will endure a wheat-induced stomach-ache" treats that has me coat-checking my colon, paying homage to the toilet bowl, and still returning for more. Suffice to say, it is absolutely scrumptious; and no "Fisher Family Christmas Extravaganza" would be complete without a quadruple batch on offer. Actually, all of my aunties bring their shortbread blends in tupperware containers for the main event, and they are all pretty spectacular. But, let's be honest, (and not to take anything... I was volunteering in my mum’s school kitchen a while ago, and the children made these phenomenal gluten-free date cookies called Klaicha as part of their Middle Eastern-themed gourmet charity lunch. These children are cooking delicious vegetarian recipes that are bursting with flavour and nutrition. Judy, the cooking teacher, finds the most exotic incredible allergy free recipes that never fail to impress. This charity lunch was no exception. The menu was mouthwatering: vegan dips and home made flat breads, Moroccan pasties, unbelievable vegetarian tagines, and delectable vegan salads. The Middle Eastern fruit salad and home made cultured yoghurt was absolutely to die for, as were these Klaicha gluten-free date cookies. Just like the... Keep Reading

OK, so this post is a few weeks late! It was Anzac Day in Australia a few weeks ago. For those of you in other countries, this is a national holiday and day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand where we celebrate and honour the contribution made to our great countries by the soldiers in World War One when they landed in Gallipoli. It now also commemorates the efforts in World War Two. I always get a bit choked up at the service; and have proudly watched my grandparents march in the parade with their medals on more than one occasion. It is a special day of pride, gratitude and reflection for most Australians and New Zealanders, as the “Anzac legend” has had a significant impact on defining the identity of both nations. My...
