I went to see my all-time-favourite musical last night and bawled like a baby. The new restaged version of Les Miserables is touring in celebration of the show's 25th anniversary. I have seen a production of this show on almost every continent, and have, on more than one occasion, been the last nostalgic fan blubbering in the stalls! Polite ushers from theatres far and wide have had to politely ask me to vacate the theatre as I stared longingly into the curtain praying for an encore. Last night's performance was not the best production I have seen. The show was too big for the theatre and I am not a fan of that modern clipped singing style that this production's musical director seemed to be championing. At one point, I thought Epinone... No "Fisher Family Christmas" would be complete without my mum's "I will sell my soul for the last spoonful" brandy cream. We proudly consider it a team effort on Christmas eve when she makes up a quadruple batch for the hungry snouts sniffing around in the kitchen for the first taste of Christmas heaven. Everyone has to have a spoonful (or two or three!) to approve the quantities of brandy and sugar, and to ensure that the blend is "Fisher snout-worthy". Our motto? "You can never have too much brandy"! My uncle John always gets the last say, having officially proclaimed himself as the ultimate "Ann brandy cream afficionado", after being sprung one-too-many times over the decades with guilty snout in fridge and finger in jug licking out the... I am posting this delectable raw vegan lemon cream as a simple adaptation of the raw vanilla cashew cream and honey cream that I posted some time ago. It is SO delicious; and is an incredible accompaniment to the "rock-your-world" damp lemon and almond cake I am posting at the end of the week. So I had to share it with my fellow piggies. It will also be a help for those of you who have emailed me, being new to raw vegan cooking, and not feeling confident to make any changes to the raw recipes. My mum asked me (with excited anticipation) the other day as she was "uncooking" for a Spring event, "where is that raw vegan lemon cream recipe?" I had an immediate flash-back to her infamous unladylike licking performance with the raw honey cream,... Keep Reading
I made this raw cashew cream yesterday to accompany a gluten free fruit cake that I made to take to a tea party, and even though it is a really basic departure from the raw vanilla cashew cream that I posted some time ago, I thought it was worth posting, to help those of you who are really new to raw cooking, and are not feeling confident making any changes. This honey vegan cashew cream is absolutely delicious. My mum came over to help me bake some gluten free cakes, and as I was making this raw cashew cream I offered her a taste. She put one small spoon in to grab a bite of what she thought was going to be “an average cream dream experience”. As the first taste hit her snout she became possessed -- so taken with it, that she literally... Keep Reading
We made a fabulous vegetarian taco buffet this week, and it was sensational. You know how partial I am to the “come and help make dinner” dinner parties, where everyone congregates in the kitchen, and we make dinner together with everyone’s input. Our gluten fee pizza parties are always a hit. As are our gluten free pasta parties. We decided to switch gears this week and head to Mexico for inspiration. We made grilled onions, red peppers, zucchinis and spinach; home made gluten free corn tortillas; a stellar vegan guacamole (of course!); some fabulous fresh salsas; and a stupendous pico de gallo! The only thing missing, was a great vegan sour cream, which everyone took great pleasure in unanimously voting for. Now, you all know that I... Keep Reading
Yes piggies, I am going to champion my beloved raw cashews again, with an admission that is long overdue -- that I too, am a devout cream dreamer. But I never really liked dairy cream on top of things, or cream filled pies and cakes. It was kind of like traditional mayonnaise for me, it never really did it for me lumped on top of things. But just like almost everyone else, I have long been seduced by the cream-inspired heaven hidden inside things! Let’s face it, whenever you taste a really rich creamy dessert that you would almost rob your grandmother for; more often than not, the magic ingredient contained inside is cream and butter! So when you adopt a dairy free lifestyle or vegan diet so you don’t have to coat check your colon and... Keep Reading
Let’s face it -- sometimes we all enjoy a little cream on the top. But we don’t like it to be on the top of our thighs! This vegan tofu cream recipe is a fantastic quick, easy, healthy alternative to conventional dairy cream. It is a vegan staple in the healthy blender recipes repertoire and can be utilized in a variety of sweet vegan and vegetarian dishes. I will refer to this tofu cream often, and use it, or a modified version of it, in a lot of my dairy free recipes. This tofu cream is an invaluable starting place when adapting your favourite conventional creamy recipes. It is a simple, blank canvas to create your own dairy free cream, according to your taste preference. I like this vegan tofu cream light and not too sweet, so that it... Keep Reading
