Piggies, this is my last post. Well, my last post for 2011! Where has the time gone? As I look back on the "year that was" I have many amazing memories: moving into my apartment and living alone for the first time in my life (I LOVED it); wonderful times with my family in Australia and America; flying back to Australia to surprise my sister for the birth of my gorgeous little nephew Sullivan (the look on her face was priceless and will go down as one of the top 10 memories of my entire life); having "skype tea parties" with my delightful niece Alexandra, the "light of my life"; amazing trips to New York City and lots of other places seeing some great theatre ("The Book Of The Mormon" takes the prize for best show this year. I laughed so... Keep Reading
Piggies, we are just days away from Thanksgiving in the US and I want to share a delicious raw vegan “eggnog” recipe that comes from the wonderful Tracy Russell at Incredible Smoothies. This is one of my favourite healthy smoothie websites. Tracy and I have a lot of synergy in our approach to health and whole foods. She and I both eat a plant based diet with a lot of raw foods and green smoothies, supplemented with some healthy cooked whole foods. So I was delighted when she agreed to do a trough swap with me this week to celebrate the holidays. She is featuring my vegan ginger cranberry sauce recipe and I am eggnogging it! Check out Tracy’s website. She has almost 400 amazing green smoothie recipes! She also shares her inspiring story... Keep Reading
Piggies! I am continuing with my cranberry orgy and posting my favourite raw vegan Body Ecology cranberry smoothie in honour of the release of Donna Gate’s new book, “The Baby Boomer Diet” and the companion DVD series, “Growing Younger: Anti-Aging Secrets For every Generation”. Those of you who have been following me for a while would be familiar with how The Body Ecology Diet changed my life. I had suffered lethargy and candida my whole life, and after having tried every whole foods diet known to man, I started on Body Ecology stage one and never looked back. Donna had successfully cherry picked many of the same elements from what she calls “the pillars of holistic health” as I had. It wasn’t until I put them together in the way that she... Keep Reading
I try to include as many raw fruits and vegetables in my daily diet as I possibly can. I like to get all of the benefits of the phytochemicals which can boost health. Green smoothies literally changed my life, and I now start my morning with a different blend of greens every day. So I end my collection of anti cancer vegan smoothies for The Thrive Alive Foundation with this delecatable raw vegan fruity green smoothie. If you are new to green smoothies and a little “green phobic”, this raw vegan fruity green smoothie is a wonderful introduction into what I would consider the greatest boost to your health. Trust me, this raw vegan green smoothie recipe tastes just like a fruit smoothie. You would never know it contained handfuls of gorgeous... Keep Reading
I love a hot cup of green tea. I also love a delectable Japanese meal. I must have been Japanese in a former life. I just love Japanese food; and no self-respecting Japanese feast would be complete without a generous helping of green tea ice cream. But after rubbing my belly on way too many Japanese feasting occasions I decided to look for a healthy vegan green tea ice cream recipe that would enable me to feed my green tea ice cream addiction without the need to coat-check my liver! So, when I was asked to create some healthy anti-cancer smoothies for The Thrive Alive Foundation in Canada I decided to create a vegan green tea smoothie where green tea and green tea ice cream lovers could get their fix in a more decadent way in minutes! We... Keep Reading
Those of you who have tasted my vegan pumpkin pie smoothie, vegan pecan pie smoothie, and the vegan apple pie smoothie that I made for my series of blender-inspired videos for Chow would be familiar with my love affair with vegan "pie in a glass" smoothies. I LOVE vegetable and fruit pies. But on the days when I am not inclined to bake (which is most days!) I turn to my trusty blender for inspiration and whip up a vegan pie smoothie to satisfy my craving for a decadent piece of pie without the need to coat-check my colon! Today I cast the fabulous sweet potato as the star attraction in my pie smoothie love fest! Sweet potatoes are soft, fibrous vegetables that are sweet and decadent, and are high in beta-carotene which boosts immune... Keep Reading
Today, I continue sharing some of the anti-cancer smoothies I created for the Thrive Alive Foundation in Canada. We started last week with the Brazil Nut Berry Smoothie, and we continue today with this salty alkaline kale green smoothie. Now, I will say right off the bat that this salty savoury smoothie will not be for everyone. If you are new to green smoothies, I would suggest starting with a sweet fruity green smoothie to ease into the idea and taste of blended greens. But for those of you who are more adventurous, this smoothie is a delicious healthy alkaline smoothie to include in your weekly eating regime. I think it tastes like liquid guacamole! YUMMO! I love cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower for boosting... Keep Reading
I was absolutely thrilled when the Thrive Alive Foundation in Canada asked me to develop some healthy anti-cancer smoothies for them. I had a blast creating some different flavoured anti-cancer vegan smoothies for this project, which I will share with you over the coming month. Please support this fantastic non-profit organization that supports cancer patients in Canada with resources for cancer treatments not funded by government or health care plans. I start with one of my all-time favourite vegan berry smoothies. I make this Brazil nut mixed berry smoothie every week because it is loaded with anti-cancer goodies and tastes absolutely delicious. I don’t know about you, but I welcome any opportunity to throw berries of all colours and... Keep Reading
Piggies, after indulging in what felt like a toxic acidic orgy and love fest with Mr Darcy, I have decided to lovingly offer a detox with one of my favourite alkaline green smoothies. What better day to share this delicious green smoothie recipe than today, which is International Green Smoothie Day. I know, I know, there is a holiday for every single food on the planet these days. But I am going to champion the cause of this green smoothie holiday with gusto, as I believe everyone should be including green smoothies in their daily eating regime. That, and it is another excuse to champion my beloved Vitamix and the power of s'blended raw green foods. To learn more about the power of green smoothies head to my Make Green Smoothies page,...
