If you want a protein-rich, energizing, nutrient-dense smoothie that tastes like a dessert, THIS is it! I very rarely create recipes using 3 bananas! AAAAHHHH! But, it really creates some magic in this smoothie. Not only is this blend sweet, rich, and tasty, it is absolutely CHOCK FULL of nutrients and plant based protein. You could also add more leafy greens to boost it even more.  I have used the homemade unsweetened, unstrained hemp seed milk from yesterday's post as the base for this smoothie. As I mentioned yesterday, hemp seeds are extremely rich in vitamins, minerals, healthy plant based fats, antioxidants, fibre, live enzymes, natural chlorophyll, Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty essential fatty acids, and contain powerful... Today, I want to share one of the most exotic mango smoothie recipes I have tasted. "Curry Smoothie???" I hear you say. Please stay open minded, because this mango coconut curry green smoothie is a walk on the wild side. This recipe was inspired by a creative blend I tried from Brendan Brazier's fabulous THRIVE FOODS book. He shared a coconut mango smoothie and added yellow curry powder for it's anti-inflammatory properties. I have been adding chili peppers and cayenne pepper to my smoothies for many years. But, I had never tried adding curry powder to a smoothie. I was intrigued, to say the least. So, I fired up my Vitamix and was pleasantly surprised by the burst of flavours. I decided to create my own version to honour Brendan and... Keep Reading

We continue our celebration of Vega today with this "Minty Sacha Inchi" Green Shake. After posting the sacha inchi seed milk recipe yesterday, I had to share one of my favourite smoothie recipes to show you how fabulous it tastes! This recipe is quite exotic, so put your bold blending panties on, and just indulge me, because the results are spectacular!  Those of you who frequent my facebook page would be abundantly aware of my obsession with liquid chlorophyll. Since Dr Robert O Young introduced Scott and I to it a couple of years ago, it has literally transformed our lives and our health. Those of you who read my green milk post would remember the miraculous results Dr Young is witnessing by including liquid chlorophyll into an... Keep Reading

We are into the third week of our Vega Giveaway. Congratulations to Heather Byrne and Tracey Gorham who are the first two winners. I will announce another lucky recipient on facebook and twitter at the end of this week. Good Luck :) I am so excited to share my favourite Vega Product and one of the greatest discoveries of the last two years -- Sacha Inchi Seeds, or, as Vega has called them, "Saviseeds". I first discovered sacha inchi seeds while reading Brendan Brazier's THRIVE FOODS book. I have raved about this book in so many posts, I would imagine you are all familiar with the book. If you are not, let me share with you one of the best nutrient-dense superfood vegan recipe books on the market. I have made almost every single... Keep Reading

Happy Sunday. I had a fabulous brunch today with my friends Elise Bauer from Simply Recipes, and Amber Stott of Awake At The Whisk, and founder of California Food Literacy. We enjoyed a zesty citrus and pear fruit salad with local fruit, delicious buckwheat pancakes, freshly squeezed local orange juice, and my sweet kale shake. YUMMO! Good fresh food, and even better company. I LOVE what these ladies are doing to help children learn about healthy eating. Please check out their initiative and support them by donating, and following them on facebook and twitter.  Another friend of mine who is committed to spreading the healthy living message is Brendan Brazier, Canadian Pro Ironman, formulator of VEGA, and creator of Zon Fitness, Thrive... Well, I don't mind tooting my own horn and proclaiming that I have hit the JACKPOT with this "pumpkin pie" smoothie that is vegan, alkaline, and sugar free!  I created this delectable recipe as a Valentine's Day surprise for Scott, who has been maintaining a strict vegan, alkaline diet. He has had nothing sweeter than a carrot stick in over six months. I know it may seem a little odd to post a pumpkin recipe at this time of the year. But... Keep Reading

Homemade raw hazelnut milk is a culinary gift from the gods! I don’t tend to "milk" hazelnuts as much as other raw nuts and seeds, as my mind always wants to pair them with chocolate for decadent treats like pralines, chocolates tortes, home made ice creams, hazelnut butter, chocolate spread (Nutella) and chocolate pancakes! However, plain slightly sweetened hazelnut milk makes a delicious treat on it's own. It is a wonderful chilled drink, or can be mixed with some raw cacao for a chocolate hazelnut milk that is DIVINE! As with the homemade almond milk, cashew milk, macadamia milk, Brazil nut milk, coconut milk, and rice milk recipes I have posted, this raw hazelnut milk is as easy as SOAK, BLEND, and DEVOUR, and makes a fabulous base...
