Green Smoothies

Piggies! Whatever you do, do NOT miss out on making this delicious raw vegan spiced strawberry green smoothie. It tastes just like melted rich strawberry ice cream. You would never guess it was dairy free, and you would never think for a moment it had green vegetables in it. Yes, this is another decadent dessert green smoothie. I don't advocate drinking these sweet green smoothies every day. But for a delicious Summer treat, you can't beat this! This fun little concoction might just rival the pistachio ice cream kale shake as a fantastic way to get kids to eat greens. For children, and those who are not partial to spicy foods, you can omit the jalapeno pepper in the recipe. This smoothie tastes great without the heat. I just thought... Keep Reading

Are you including sprouts in your diet? Sprouts are one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet! They are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and live enzymes. They are LIVING foods that CONTINUE to grow in nutrients after you harvest them. Once you pick your sprouts and refrigerate them, their vitamin content actually increases as they slowly keep growing! This is very different from many fruits and vegetables which start losing their vitamin content as soon as they’re picked and are often shipped all over the world and stored in warehouses for months before they reach stores! You can easily make sprouts yourself at home too! Check out my How To Sprout page for quick easy steps on sprouting. I include sprouts in my diet... Keep Reading

I LOVE parsley, I LOVE grapes, and I LOVE homemade lemonade. So, needless to say, this raw vegan grape parsley lemonade green smoothie ticks ALL the right boxes for me. It is JAM PACKED full of delicious refreshing zesty Summer flavours, and is absolutely LOADED with goodness.  Italian flat-leaf parsley is FANTASTIC for adding into green smoothies because it is low in calories ( 1 cup contains about 20 calories ) and is a nutritional POWERHOUSE. The levels of vitamins and minerals in fresh parsley are just staggering! Parsley is absolutely LOADED with calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, potassium, zinc and phosphorus. It is also an excellent source of vitamin A, as beta-carotene, Vitamin C vitamin K, and an excellent source of... After receiving an overwhelming number of celebratory emails over the last few months from those of you who have been enjoying the "pistachio ice cream" kale shake, I thought I would post some more "sneaky green" smoothie recipes utilizing kale. There is such rich, juicy, sweet , fresh pineapple available in California right now, that I thought I would exploit it's "green masking superpower!" This raw vegan "pineapple ice cream" green kale smoothie is sweet and refreshing on a Summer's day, and for "greenophobes", you will never know there is kale in it! You can't taste a thing. I actually LOVE the taste of kale! I love to make raw kale salads, kale chips, and in savoury "gazpacho-style" green smoothies. But for kale "newbies"... Keep Reading

Piggies! This raw vegan apple and mango green smoothies utilizing radish greens is absolutely delicious! "Radish Greens! YUK!" I hear you say. "You can't eat radish greens!" Well.....you can! AND they taste delicious in healthy green smoothies.  Most people throw away the tops of carrots, beets, turnips and radishes. But scientific studies have shown that the greens are the most nutritious part of these vegetables. Radishes greens are loaded with nutrients, in fact, more nutrients than their root. Radish leaves contain almost six times the vitamin C content than their root, and tons of calcium and protein! The leaves also contain significant amounts of iron, magnesium, folate, and vitamins A and K, and other nutrients.  These best... Keep Reading

Piggies! I know I said it last week with the pina colada green smoothie, (I swear it tastes like it has rum in it) but I have hit the JACKPOT again with this raw vegan banana coconut cream pie green smoothie. I swear the green smoothie gods must be with me this month, because I created some incredible green smoothies on the weekend that I will share with you this week. They would be some of my most s'blended creations yet, and at the risk of throwing all humility out of the window, I don't mind crowing about it! This green smoothie tastes just like an incredible melted banana coconut cream pie in a glass! Those of you who have been following me for a while are well aware of my penchant for vegan "pie in a glass" smoothies. If you... Keep Reading

Last week, I talked about savoury "gazpacho style" vegetable green smoothies in my raw vegan spicy tomato parsley green smoothie post. Thankyou for all of your emails, tweets, facebook comments about these "sweet fruitless" green smoothies. Many of you commented on the garlic, ginger, and onion, and how you found it a bit too pungent first thing in the morning. Personally, those flavours get me going in the morning. But I totally understand that it is a bit "full on" for a lot of people. My friend Katy recently discovered she has an intolerance to garlic. I secretly WEPT on her behalf, as I would be literally be LOST without fresh garlic. As devastating as I found this piece of news, (you will be pleased to know the violins in my head... Keep Reading

Piggies, I am just a tad late with this post. California kiwi fruit is only in season from November through May! I know I am always harping on about eating local, but with New Zealand kiwi fruits in season June through October, we can enjoy kiwi fruits all year round. So, I thought I would still post this raw vegan sweet kiwi green smoothie as a fantastic Summery treat. For those of you living in Australia and New Zealand, you will be in luck! I don't know about you but I LOVE kiwi fruit. Growing up in Australia, we had an abundance of it. My mum was always cutting one in half and handing my sister and I a spoon, where we could scoop out the creamy flesh for a quick healthy snack. I love the unique sweet/tart flavour that is close to... Keep Reading

Piggies! If you like pina coladas, you are going to LOVE me today. I don't mind admitting that I NAILED this delectable non alcoholic pina colada smoothie, and am SO excited to share it with you. The reason why I am so proud of this little triumph is that the secret ingredient is one of the most bitter wild edible greens on the planet - dandelion greens.   Most people who brave including dandelion greens into their "greens rotation" are usually repelled after the first attempt because of the overwhelming bitterness, that typically requires a lot of sweet fruit to balance out . Whilst, I do not recommend drinking this pina colada smoothie every day (it does contain a lot of natural fruit sugar) it is a sexy introduction to the wonderful... Keep Reading
