Vegetarian Recipes

Hey everyone! I hope you are all well. Only short posts this week as I am enjoying a vacation in Australia with my family! I HAD intended to have everything written in advance before I got on the plane. But, alas, as usual, I left everything to the last minute and things did not work out in such an organized fashion. So, I am bashing this post out as Alexandra sets up the "Dora Tea Set" my cousin gave her for her 3rd birthday, before I am expected to arrive in the "fairy garden" for our morning tea party.   But I had to quickly share this natural homemade eco green wood furniture polish! This simple little mixture is really effective and takes seconds to make. I have used this recipe a lot and love it. But, I was overjoyed after giving... Keep Reading

If you are like me, you will agree that cleaning the toilet is the most dreaded task in the house. There is nothing glamorous about it. But, it has to be done. There are a lot of toxic toilet cleaners on the market that I can't with all good conscience flush down into our waterways. Fortunately, there are some wonderful natural toilet cleaners at the health food store and grocery store. However, these cleaners can be extremely expensive, and are not quite as natural as I would like. I have tried many green toilet cleaners, but I keep coming back to plain vinegar, baking soda, borax, and lemon juice. However, if this is a bit too "granola hippy" (as my father calls it) nothings beats this fabulous recipe from the wonderful Sophie... Keep Reading

I have been overwhelmed by the response, and I am LOVING learning all of your fabulous eco-friendly cleaning tricks. Don't forget to enter to win a Full Circle Natural Green Cleaning Kit. So, we move onto leather today. What is the best natural way to clean and restore leather? Well, I have tried all kinds of natural leather cleaners, and in my opinion, nothing beats flaxseed oil (linseed oil if you live in Australia.) or olive oil. Adding in just a little bit of white distilled vinegar helps to cut through the oil and add a cleaning power which prevents an oily residue forming on your leather. I always test each... I have tried all kinds of eco-friendly glass and window cleaners, both commercial products and natural recipes, and in my opinion, nothing works better than plain old vinegar and water! I almost didn’t post this tip because it is so easy and doesn’t really qualify as a “recipe”. But after speaking with some “green skeptic” friends this week who were not convinced that you could make effective natural cleaners that rivaled their toxic commercial counterparts, I thought it was worth posting this simple “vinegar and water” message to spread the word in the hopes that more people will give the “simple is best” approach a go. A mixture of ½ vinegar and ½ warm water is all you need to make glass surfaces, windows, and mirrors clear and... Keep Reading

Inspired by the Full Circle Cleaning Kit Giveaway this month, I continue to share some of my favourite natural cleaning recipes made out of ingredients you can get at the grocery store. This homemade natural eco-friendly laundry detergent is another amazing recipe I got from the folks at Full Circle. Get your stirring spoons out, because this quick, easy recipe is a winner! For many years I have used baking soda, vinegar, lavender oil, and tea tree oil to do my washing. But, when I came across this recipe in the Full Circle Greenhouse, CleanHouse Natural Cleaning Booklet that comes with their Come Clean Natural Cleaning Set, I decided to give it a go, and I LOVE it! This mixture is so easy to make, and your clothes will look and feel... Keep Reading

Piggies! I have the most amazing discovery to share – a fantastic company called Full Circle, that has developed a phenomenal line of eco-friendly cleaning tools that are helping America go green with their cleaning routine. These are literally the most functional, durable, stylish eco cleaning tools I have ever used! The “practical-yet-gorgeous” design of these products blows me away. Every detail has been fully thought-through -- such as ergonomic handles that make the tools easy to hold and highly effective, a stand up or hang up design for quick drying and less bacterial accumulation, as well as stunning bamboo bases that make them look like pieces of kitchen art! When I first saw them, they reminded me of the sleek Swedish and... Keep Reading

Piggies! As this is Memorial Day, I thought I would share one of my favourite quick easy desserts that I am serving up today. This nifty little idea looks impressive, and turns the simple into the sublime in minutes. After all, who doesn't enjoy a delicious ice cream sundae? This is a creative way to serve them. I freeze mine in cupcake liners sitting in cold muffin tins, as I've found this yields the best results. But you could also roll the ice cream, freeze it, and serve it straight onto a plate with some couli, or arrange them in cocktail glasses with some chocolate sauce. YUM! I just like the idea of little ice cream cakes!  The beauty of this recipe is that there is NO FIXED RECIPE! You can choose any ice cream you like, and roll... Keep Reading

Piggies! I have been inspired by our Gluten Free Healthy Surprise Giveaway, and so this month I am sharing some quick easy gluten free vegan snack recipes. These maple cinnamon almonds are absolutely scrumptious! Raw almonds are my favourite snack food, and if I want to make them more decadent, I cover them in different sweeteners and flavourings and dehydrate them. I made a few different kinds of sugar almonds last Christmas, and they were a huge hit. I have labelled this recipe as "raw" because the almonds are raw and dehydrated. However, strictly speaking, they are not completely raw because the maple sugar has been made from boiled maple syrup. But, there are raw foodists who eat maple syrup. So I thought I would include it in the... Keep Reading
