Green smoothie lovers, I have a treat for you. This sensational fig smoothie recipe comes from the amazing Simple Green Smoothies cookbook that swept the world last year. I've been dying to share this fantastic book, and am thrilled to finally be home so I can do so.
Jen Hansard and Jadah Sellner, founders of Simple Green Smoothies are two busy moms raising their families on healthy whole foods. They’ve personally experienced the difference green smoothies can make towards improving health. Green smoothies helped Jen rebound from a chronic case of low energy, and Jadah lost 27 pounds after having her children to get back into her skinny jeans! And, they're on a mission to help others get healthy, too.
Their wildly popular website has changed the lives of over a million people through their free 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge and their massive instagram and facebook communities.
Their wonderful cookbook, Simple Green Smoothies expands on all of the awesome offerings on their website and social media, and contains over 100 delicious green smoothie recipes to nourish, revitalize, energize, and fuel your body from the inside out. Forget counting calories or eliminating foods, this book encourages you to make one simple change: drink a green smoothie every day.
In this book, Jen and Jadah take you through every aspect of smoothie-making: the benefits of green smoothies - increased energy, strengthened immunity, digestive health, sharpened mental clarity, weight loss, and glowing skin; blender tips and tricks; working with fresh produce from washing to composting; incorporating leafy greens with success; cost-cutting tricks; top nutrient boosters (herbs, spices, superfoods, oils) for smoothies; soaking and sprouting; and their foolproof green smoothie formula. There's also a 10-Day Green Smoothie Kick-Start program included that serves as a fabulous introduction to a plant-powered lifestyle.
Because fresh figs are in season in California, I thought I'd share this figgy pudding green smoothie from the book. Even though we're a couple of months away from thanksgiving, I'm celebrating early with this scrumptious dessert-style smoothie. This blend is rich, creamy, sweet, super tasty, and loaded with nutrients. Rich in minerals, figs supply potassium, calcium, iron, and copper, and are good sources of vitamins A, E, and K. Figs also contain a proteolytic enzyme that aids digestion. Yeah, tell yourself that as you blend up another, and another, and another this holiday season. For those of you who don't have access to fresh figs, look for frozen.
Now, bring up some figgy pudding, and we're not waiting for the holidays this year!
