Vitamix Autumn Sweet Potato Smoothie

9

We continue our celebration of Vitamix Smoothies and our fabulous Vitamix 750 Giveaway with this delicious Vitamix Autumn Sweet Potato Smoothie. This delicious blend is a wonderful treat for fall, and a great way to use leftover sweet potato after the holidays. This delectable drink is loaded with antioxidants and goodies, but is still FUN!

Next time you are craving potatoes, grab for sweet potatoes instead. Sweet potatoes are a FABULOUS source of beta carotene, and have shown up in some studies to raise our blood levels of Vitamin A. To get the full benefit of the goodness of sweet potatoes it is recommend to add a tiny bit of good quality cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. I added a teaspoon of cold pressed coconut oil to this smoothie to get the benefits.

Just 1 cup of sweet potato is FULL of Vitamin C which helps with bone, tooth formation, skin health, digestion, blood cell formation, and detoxification. Vitamin D plays an important role in in our energy levels, moods, and helps to build healthy bones, heart, nerves, skin, and teeth, and it supports the thyroid gland. Sweet potato is also high in B6, which has been linked to the prevention of heart attacks.

Sweet potatoes are also a great source of iron which helps with red and white blood cell production, resistance to stress, proper immune functioning, and the metabolizing of proteins. They contain magnesium which combats stress and helps you relax, and helps with healthy arteries, blood, bones, heart, muscles, and nerve function. Sweet potatoes also contain significant amounts of manganese, copper, and fibre.

Sweet potatoes are also absolutely LOADED with antioxidants, as well as anti-inflammatory properties, and blood-sugar regulating nutrients.
Best of all, sweet potatoes are readily available, inexpensive, and absolutely delicious! .

I LOVE using cooked sweet potato in smoothies. Blend up my vegan sweet potato pie smoothie after this recipe. Oh My! I just feel like you can't go wrong with a sweet potato in the mix! HA! Definitely check out yesterday's recipe using cooked beets too. YUMMO!

Vitamix has some fantastic quick easy smoothie recipes in their recipe center. The Key Lime Kiwi Smoothie, Mango Delight, and Tropical Escape smoothies are super easy and delicious. Check out my Vitamix Tropical Cooler Video. That smoothie is a WINNER!

The thing I love the most about my Vitamix is that I can pretty much throw anything into the mix, and with a little tweaking and tasting come up with a delicious blend with a gorgeous creamy texture every single time. Check out the Vitamix How To Make Smoothies video where I share some tips to get the most efficient blend.

Piggy Cooking Tips

How to prevent sticking when chopping dried fruits

Chopping dried fruits such as dates, apricots and raisins can be a sticky mess. The fruit sticks to the knife, the board and your fingers. To get yourself out of a sticky situation just rub a tiny drop of cold pressed oil onto the blade of your knife. The fruit will slide right off after cutting.

This looks absolutely gorgeous.  I adore sweet potato in smoothies and it blends up so well in a vitamix.  It’s a very autumnal creation.  Many thanks.

i’m not sure how you can classify this as raw, since you are using cooked sweet potatoes.  just because they are cold doesn’t classify this as raw food.

am eating raw and was super excited to try this… until i read the recipe.

Thanks Chnacat,
I laughed so hard when I read your comment “just because they are cold doesn’t classify this as raw food.” Yes, of course! I am well aware of that. I post so many raw recipes on this site as I am mostly raw, that sometimes when I post I accidentally tick the raw category when I am tired. Thanks for catching that.
There are plenty of other raw smoothies you can enjoy here.

Sounds yummy! I have a question for you (unrelated to this particular recipe) - I bought the book Green Smoothie Revolution by Victoria Boutenko, and in it (and in her blog), she states about green smoothies: “Don’t add anything to your smoothie except greens, fruit, and water. I don’t recommend adding nuts, seeds, oils, supplements or other ingredients to your green smoothie. Most of these items slow down the assimilation of green smoothies in your digestive tract and may cause irritation and gas. Do not add starchy vegetables such as carrots, beets, broccoli stems, zucchini, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, egg plant, pumpkin, squash, okra, peas, corn, green beans, and others to your green smoothies. Starchy vegetables combine poorly with fruit and may also produce gas.” What’s your take on that?

...Well…semi-unrelated :) Thanks for your time!

Talia.
I am a HUGE fan of Victoria’s book and absolutely agree with ALL of this. I am a food combiner, and on a daily basis, do not combine fruit with other foods. Leafy greens are the exception.
I post a lot of what I call, “treat smoothies” on this site. They are great for treats, but I do not consume them every day. In my daily life, I actually only consume alkaline vegetable green smoothies using non starchy veggies. I hope this helps to clarify. Thankyou for your interest and I am sorry it took me a while to get back to you about this. I have been spending long hours on set, in the studio, and travelling for events. Apologies :)
